Broadway In July
Wisconsin Dells
Broadway is Main Street in the town of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. It’s an approximate half mile walk from one end of town to the other on Broadway Street.
Once a small resort town that drew a few thousand visitors every summer the area now draws five million visitors a year from all around the world.
Having so many visitors on Broadway Street makes it an idea location for Street Photography.
July begins my first month of shooting Street Photography.

The Honey Guy
I like honey on my morning toast and since I go to the Honey Guy on Broadway Street to buy it, I decided to make the Honey Guy my first street photo.
However after talking with him I decided it would only feel right to ask if I could take his photo.
So it turns out my first lesson learned in street photography is that in certain situations, asking permission is the way to go.

A Broadway Artist
At the corner of Broadway and Eddy streets I photographed this caricature artist. He was busy drawing and didn’t even realize I was there.
Looking back, I should have followed up with a photo taken over his shoulder of what he was drawing.
Another lesson, don’t be a one and done street photographer.

Grabbing Some Bench
My first real challenge in shooting Street Photography has been learning to take photos without looking like I’m taking photos.
When I saw this couple on the bench, I placed my camera on my hip and used its volume control button to snap pictures as I slowly walked by them.
I must of taken ten photos of which only a couple worked. I was fortunate with the photo background.
Backgrounds are something I need to pay more attention to now.

A Walk Down Broadway
This is one of my favorite Broadway photos. In a way it tells the story of visitors coming to the Wisconsin Dells as they take in the sights while walking down Broadway.

You want my picture?
This photo, because of the man’s physical location, forced me to me to ask for his permission to take his photograph. His response in disbelief was, “You want to take a picture of me?”
It was one smile that I was glad I came out of hiding for. Again, asking permission made sense.
What I didn’t tell him was that his photo would be posted on my website.

Best Seat on Broadway
Had I not been quick, I would have missed the above photo. I’m learning that it’s real easy with a street full of people to miss photo opportunities.

Sidewalk Tattoos
With crowded sidewalks it’s easy to walk right past things. I stopped when I saw the crowd and waited til people moved on in order to capture this tattoo artist.

Not a happy camper …..
I saw him in tears walking towards me and moved quickly to capture this photo. I’m learning more and more to be aware of what’s coming at me. Chances for good photos can be there and gone in seconds on the street.
I’ll never knew why the boy’s tears, but it is the Wisconsin Dells so I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be crying for long.

Parking on Broadway???
There is thing in Street Photography where you capture a photo with people in unusual or humorous settings.
I didn’t know what I had with the above photo until after I took it. Parking in downtown Wisconsin Dells can be confusing with its numbered spaces and pay for parking machines.
The two in my above photo appear to be caught in a parking dilemma.
